Our founders were sleeping in their car, several miles up a dirt road near a secret hot spring. They awoke the next morning to a crisp powder day with sub-zero temperatures... and a car that wouldn’t start. Far outside of cell reception and confronted with an impossibly long walk to the nearest town, they decided to bundle up in their sleeping bags and drink whiskey while they waited for someone else to show up.

and the conversation took an unexpected turn to the subject of bedding. Cozy and warm in their sleeping bags, the two acknowledged how much better the materials felt and performed than what was on their beds back home. A resolve was made to create a “sleeping bag blanket” and the idea for the Original Rumpl blanket was conceived.

JAN 2014

Armed with basic prototypes they launched the Original Puffy Blanket on Kickstarter. The crowd went wild and the campaign was over 100% funded in hours. With that, the fire was lit and Rumpl was born. Backers received their very first Original Puffy Blankets in July of 2014.

Around the time our first Kickstarter was taking off, we realized that we had stumbled upon a much bigger idea than a single product. Despite centuries of textile development in the apparel and fashion industries, relatively few of these innovations have been applied to the everyday blanket.
We think it’s time to change that.

We utilize technical materials that have been developed for premium activewear and outdoor gear to modernize the everyday blanket. The materials have been tested and proven in harsh environments, yet specifically selected to blur the line between indoor comfort and outdoor performance. The end result is a high-quality, versatile blanket that provides “the comfort of home”, wherever that may be. Rumpl blankets are for everyone and for everywhere
